BROOKLINE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Brookline hosted its first annual Juneteenth celebration on Saturday.
The Freedom March was organized by a group of community leaders Brookline POC Committee, BBYBM (Brookline Black Yellow Brown Men), and BDC (Brookline Diversity Club). They partnered with the Brookline Community Foundation and the Town of Brookline in order to bring Brookline’s First Annual Juneteenth Celebration.
The event started at Florida Ruffin Ridley School at 10 a.m. and ended at Brookline Ave. Park around 11 a.m.
Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey said he thinks Juneteenth being an official holiday "is just one more little step in a bigger fight that we should continue to help spread the word."
According to WBZ NewsRadio's Suzanne Sausville (@WBZSausville), there were around 100 people at the celebration.
